Formed in the year 1900 the Federalsburg Volunteer Fire Company is located in Caroline County Maryland, We are a 100% volunteer Fire and EMS company. We service approximately 60 square miles of south Caroline County including approximately 7.5 miles of the marshy creek and 3,589 acres of Idylwild WMA. We provide mutual aid to surrounding areas including but not limited to Dorchester County, Maryland, and Sussex County, Delaware.
While providing professional Fire and EMS services, We host countless fundraisers throughout the year such as chicken B.B.Q., Food truck night, antique car shows, and many more. These fundraisers are nothing without your support! we also provide services such as pool fills, smoke detector checks and replacements, Public education about fire safety, and First Aid.
Many volunteers provide countless hours of devoted work to keep us 100% volunteer. There are multiple important roles within the company such as fire chief, EMS captain, president, and treasurer to list a few. we have endless committees that provide amazing support with countless hours spent helping the company behind the scenes and keeping us going.

Below you will find descriptions of each job that we can offer you. "Can I choose to be in one or more positions?" ABSOLUTELY!
FireFighter: A firefighter is a first responder trained in firefighting 101 at a minimum, primarily to control and extinguish fires that threaten life and property, as well as to rescue persons from confinement or dangerous situations, such as motor vehicle accidents, water rescues, or high angle rescues and all types of other situations/emergencies. Education is provided at company-level drills for continuing education and from the Maryland State Fire and Rescue Institute (MFRI) for a certificate.
EMT-Basic or Paramedic: EMTs are exposed to various situations such as lifting patients with equipment, treating those in a time of need, and transportation via ground or air vehicles (as applicable). Quickly arriving at the scene of an emergency to provide immediate care. providers will evaluate the patient’s condition to determine the necessary treatment and Administer lifesaving treatments such as CPR, wound care, and medication. All while safely transporting patients to hospitals and providing ongoing care. you will also Coordinate with other healthcare providers to ensure seamless patient care and communication.
New prospects will spend 4-5 months gaining a Nationally Registered EMT certificate and Maryland EMT license to provide medical care. Paramedics spend approximately 18 months in a college course provided by local colleges gaining a Nationally registered Paramedic certificate and Maryland Paramedic license after obtaining an EMT certificate. Once you have obtained a desired certificate, members will spend time performing a medical care evaluation and gain clearance to provide medical care to and for the Federalsburg population.
Cadet Program Ages 14-18: The Fire/Rescue Cadet Program consists of Cadets 14 to 18 years of age. Cadets can attend company-level drills, fundraising, and meetings to learn how the fire and EMS service works to prepare them for their Fire or EMS class.
